Fiesta Island Dog Owners
FIDO is a project of a California 501(c)3 non-profit corporation
and contributions are tax deductible according to law

Our mission is to preserve the Fiesta Island Leash-free Recreational Area.  We are a community based organization with over 3600 members which is rapidly growing.  We are a diverse group of citizens who share a common passion and vision for Fiesta Island.  We are the largest user group of Fiesta Island and unlike other user groups, we use the island 365 days a year, rain or shine. FIDO has a board of 11 members who are working hard with the city to find a reasonable solution that meets the needs of 'all' Fiesta Island Users.

Fiesta Island going to the dogs

It's never been fancy, and remains somewhat Spartan. But on a weekday morning, Fiesta Island is all yours and if you take the time to look around, you'll find some hidden treasures.

Marcia and Taya rode in from Lakeside.

"I love it. We come down here all the time," Marcia said.

Today there were shores to be explored and lessons to be learned.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - With all these open spaces, they were off to the races. Whether you're in a full canter or just on a leisurely cruise, Fiesta Island is meant to be enjoyed your own way at your own chosen speed.

On this day in the middle of Mission Bay, the rest of the world seems so far away. Fiesta Island is a four-legged frolic, especially for first timers like Jeffery and his newly-acquired rescue dog.

"This resource that's available to San Diego residents that I never knew about," Jeffery said.

Buried in the belly of these beast-friendly fields, you'll find one of the county's biggest and best doggie water parks.

"There's plenty of room. My dog can run free, he's so happy," Jeffery said.

For Melissa, Joelle and Andres, a trip to Fiesta Island dog park has become a ritual. "This is the best place ever to bring your dogs," Melissa said.

"We come here almost every day. The dogs just run around. They have a dog fence, so they can't really get out. This is a good park," Joelle said.

On any given day, San Diego is a great place to call home, but on a sun-splashed morning on Fiesta Island, it's almost unbeatable.

Dear FIDO Members

We need to step up and Clean up!  One of the biggest complaints we hear at meetings with city staff is that dog owners do not pick up after their dogs. While the majority of us do, the small percentage of those who do not are putting our fenced area at risk. We need to get pro-active and police ourselves if that is what it takes.

Please, if you see someone not picking up after their dog, offer them a bag so hopefully they will get the hint (or at least be embarrassed for being an inconsiderate dog owner).

This is a very serious issue and one that we need to work on together if we want to keep our fenced off-leash area.  Carry two bags with you so you can encourage those who don't pick up to start cleaning up!

How Can You Help?

  • We need to show the City Council that we are a group of substantial size.

Please ask all your friends who support the preservation of the Fenced Leash-free Area to just click here Join FIDO and tell us they want to be added to our Members List and include their full name ... or ... they can drop by our FIDO table located at the front gate of the fenced area on Fiesta Island between 10 am & Noon on weekends

  • Sign our letter to Mayor Sanders and the City Council. Download  the letter, sign and mail it.  Please let FIDO know you mailed a letter to Mayor Sanders.

  • Send letters to the editors of our local newspapers
